Tony Pena's RBI single in the 11th inning pushed Kansas City over Detroit, 5-4, in the season-opener for both teams at Comerica Park. Facing Denny Bautista (0-1), Mark Teahen walked and moved to second on a sacrifice by Ross Gload. He was cut down at the plate by Brandon Inge trying to score from second on a John Buck single. Buck took second on the throw and raced home with the go-ahead run on a bloop single to center by Pena.
