BetUS mixed martial arts betting customers who like to bet on the fight game will be watching on Saturday night when the UFC presents the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter 7, coming to you from The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The sports betting odds on these fights, as well as future UFC action, can be found at the BetUS Sportsbook, under "UFC Fighting." On that night, will the dogs be barking?
We decided to see if we could get some opinions out there; but while the blogosphere and the MMA viral media out there has no shortage of opinion on the UFC's pay-per-view fights, and the episode-by-episode blogs on TUF are plentiful, I don’t find a lot of people weighing in on this Saturday's event. Hey - it's LIVE, guys!
BetUS UFC Betting Odds
Middleweights
EVAN TANNER -185
KENDALL GROVE +145
This fight has obviously drawn the attention of some Grove bettors; when we looked last week, he was +160. Tanner is more of a veteran, and may need to win this to keep his career going, but Grove has been disappointing in his last two efforts, and senses some desperation too.
Pat V. of MMA Betting Blog (a BetUS affiliate) likes Grove in the fight: "I believe Kendall has the skills to beat Tanner and needs to be ready and hungry come Saturday......Tanner is very good and I have a lot of respect for him, but I think his days are close to done. Kendall will pull off the upset with a decision win after the third round."
At BetOnUFC.com, the underdog isn't being given much of a chance. "Tanner will be able to get inside Grove's reach easily and punish the newcomer. Grove may be able to take Tanner to the ground, but Tanner is no novice and will easily deal with this."
Lightweights
SPENCER FISHER -200
JEREMY STEPHENS +160
No movement that I have noticed since last week, but there is a little bit of personal history involved in this matchup. It seems to be the opinion of some that the punching power of Stephens has to be respected.
Leland Roling of BetUS affiliate MMA Analyst gives Stephens a great opportunity to pull the upset. "Stephens is beginning to work his way up in the division," Roling wrote. "He’s 2-1 in the UFC with his lone loss to Din Thomas at UFC 71, and Fisher will be a step up in competition for him. Fisher should be able to use his experience, striking, and overall toughness to pull out a win, but Stephens has a shot with good power in the standup."
Middleweights
DREW McFEDRIES -135
MARVIN EASTMAN +105
No movement here since our story last week on this event. And not too much in the way of opinion either. Or maybe my Google skills just aren't as sharp as they used to be.
"McFedries is also very strong and well-rounded," wrote Pat V. at MMA Betting Blog. "I see him coming out looking for the knock out and putting a lot of pressure on Eastman. This fight will be exciting and action packed. I believe McFedries will be too much for Eastman to handle, and will catch him with a second round knock out."
Welterweights
JOSH BURKMAN -220
DUSTIN HAZELETT +175
MMA Betting Blog likes Burkman, but cautions, "Hazelett is a very dangerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter. He is going to put a lot of pressure on Burkman, bringing the action to him. He doesn’t have heavy hands, but has great submission skills....The advantage could be on Hazelett’s side if Burkman is going into this fight wanting to slug it out.
"Burkman’s standup needs to improve significantly before I can believe he’s a presence in the division," writes Roling. "Looping haymakers don’t win fights unless your opponent walks into one. Let’s hope this one turns out to be a decent scrap, but it could end quickly if Hazelett gets it to the ground."
And there you have some of it. Maybe there will be more in the way of prediction out there as fight night approaches. But for the time being, until the Rampage-Griffin fight, it look like it could be those "dog days of summer" coming early.
