Give Boston its due. The Celtics were not only better than the Los Angeles Lakers, but every other squad in both the Eastern and Western Conferences.
They eliminated LA in six games in the NBA Finals, and closed out the set with a very convincing 131-92 victory at TD Banknorth Garden. Paul Pierce averaged 21.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists, and took home the well deserved MVP honors for the series.
This was the matchup the NBA was hoping for. Star power, history and a great rivalry between two of the top franchises in professional sports. Unfortunately, this series did not live up to the hype.
It was evident from the start that the Celtics were the better team. Their defense, depth, offensive flow and (believe it or not) coaching outclassed that of Kobe Bryant and the Western Conference champions.
