Four English teams are in the final eight, including two - Arsenal and Liverpool - that will face each other in a massive clash.
Enough of the hype: Let's get right down to business.
Of the quarterfinal ties it's Arsenal v. Liverpool which most catches the eye. With an unprecedented show of strength, the Premiership’s Big Three (and Liverpool) signify the first time any nation’s league has so dominated this stage of the competition. Really, any combo from the above four would have produced a heated matchup, and with last weekend’s results in the Premiership, the Champions League is now both of these teams' best shot at silverware.
In recent years Arsenal have performed well against Liverpool in domestic competitions, often winning comfortably at home and holding their own at Anfield. Yet Liverpool’s European form has been in sharp contrast to their league play, winning the final in 2005 while losing to Milan last year (knocking Chelsea out in the semis twice along the way). As a European game it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
