| Brazil was chosen as the host country of the 2014 Men's World Cup, while Germany was given the same distinction as the home of the 2011 Women's World Cup. FIFA president Joseph Blatter made the announcement following an executive committee meeting on Tuesday. This will be the second time Brazil will host a World Cup, as the South American country did it in 1950. Brazil, which has won the tournament five times, lost to Uruguay in the final in 1950. "There was an extraordinary presentation by the delegation and we witnessed that this World Cup will have such a big social and cultural impact in Brazil," Blatter said. "This is the country that has given to the world the best football and the best footballers, and they are five times world champions." South Africa will host the Men's World Cup in 2010. Brazil was the only country bidding to host the 2014 event. Canada also bid for the 2011 Women's World Cup, but lost out to a country that hosted the Men's World Cup a year ago. "With emotion and pleasure, I'm happy to give this trophy back to the DFB and the team that won the trophy this year and in 2003," Blatter said.
