The FIFA/Coca-Cola Men's World Rankings for the month of August were released on Wednesday

The top 10 teams saw some minor movement as Germany slipped past Italy and into second place, although they are still well behind defending Euro 2008 champions Spain.

Italy dropped one spot into third, while South American powerhouses Brazil (6th, down 2) and Argentina (7th, down1) both moved down, allowing the Netherlands (4th, up 1) and Croatia (5th, up 2) to pass them.

Spain has been doing pretty well in sports, especially recently. Nadal is way up there, andI see them being well represented in the Olympics. I think they have done particularly well to have overhauled those other soccer powerhouses though.

England is having some issues lately competing at the top levels in sports related areas. If they only had a fish and chips event in the Olympics, England would get the gold hands down.

Oy! I'm British! We do more than eat fish and chips-besides, the national take out dish is curry, not fish and chips.

I've been in the US for four years and yes, have watched the decline with sadness.

I think this shuffling of the deck is pretty good for the game. Look at where the mighty Brazil is, 6th place, and Croatia is 5th. The sport is not as predictable as it used to be.
