Ronaldo to stay put at Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo will play for Man United this season, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "The matter is closed now," Ferguson said.

Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Real Madrid since the end of last season - when he scored 42 goals to lead United to the Champions League and Premier League titles

On Tuesday Sir Alex was quoted as saying "that Madrid's public courtship of the Portugal international was in vain."

Their public courtship was also a real pain in the bum. I got rather tired of hearing 'he's moving!'. 'Oh, no, he's not!'. 'Yes, he is!'.

They pushed their luck rather, with regards to the regulations on trying to get new players and I was surprised that they didn't get slapped down for it by the regulating body. I'm glad to hear in the end that Man Utd kept a tight reign on him.
