| EURO 2008: Turkey’s not done yet Turkey is a big underdog at 6.00 odds against powerhouse Germany (1.45 odds) in the Euro 2008 semifinals. The odds for a tie are 3.75. This game is being played in Basel, Switzerland and it’s set to begin Wednesday at 2:45 pm ET. You can bet on the game here as well as on the tournament winner, top scorer and more. Germany is the favorite to win the tournament at 7:5, followed closely by Spain (8:5). Underrated Russia checks in at 7:2, while Turkey provides plenty of value at 10:1. The journey for the Germans has not been as smooth as originally expected. They finished in second place in Group B behind Croatia as they lost 2-1 to them in their second game. However, Germany seemed emboldened after making the Final 8, and they handled a strong Portugal team, 3-2 to make it to this game. Turkey was not supposed to make it to this point, especially after losing their opening match to Portugal 2-0. Since then though, the soccer gods have been smiling on them with comeback wins over Switzerland and the Czech Republic in Group A. In the Czech game, Turkey was trailing 2-0 before storming back for a 3-2 victory. In their quarterfinal match against Croatia, Turkey tied it up at 1-1 with just seconds to go, and ended up winning on penalty kicks. Croatia player, Ivan Klasnić was stunned after the outcome and he wasn’t exactly throwing a bouquet of roses in Turkey’s direction. “If Turkey continues to have this sort of luck, we will have something very similar to a new Greece," he said. "We were much better than them during the match, the Turks hardly created any goal-scoring opportunities. I think the Germans will beat Turkey easily, because the luck they have had can't continue for always." Now the Turks must face Germany without a number of their players due to injuries and suspensions. It’s a hard task to beat a top team like Germany even at full strength, but these conditions mean a Turkey win on Wednesday would be an upset of gigantic proportions. Even with the odds in their favor though, the Germans are not about to take them lightly. "The Turks have shown throughout the tournament that you can't count them out no matter what the score in the game is," Germany coach Joachim Loew said. "They are hard to figure out and therefore dangerous." If Turkey’s magical run sounds familiar, it’s because all you have to do is harken back to the Euro 2004 championship won by Greece. And Turkey has a lot more skill than they are given credit for, especially in their short passing games. Will it be enough for another upset? Login to Sportsbook.com and you decide. |
