The 2004 Euro Champion Greeks won’t even get a chance to defend their title in the second-round as they suffered two straight defeats in group play. That makes this sports betting match almost meaningless to both Greece, who will be looking to just show-up in this match as all they are playing for is pride, and Spain, which will look to let their subs take to the pitch and do something interesting.



Spain coach Luis Aragones has already stated that he will rest most of his starters, if not all, in this match. That’s how much better Spain is in this tournament then Greece. I went back to some of the games in 2004 to try and find something, anything that could have led me to choosing Greece as the European Champions.

What I found is that Greece played much better defense in the 2004 matches then they have here in the 2008 matches. They aren’t a better team, per se, but a different team in the sense that in this tournament, they haven’t really shown up defensively.

That, of course, is why they will be going home after this match.
