| The Euro 2008 Championship starts this Saturday with two games in Group A. All of the Groups are tough, of course, but Group A looks like the least toughest as Portugal and the Czech Republic look to be the two teams that move on to the next round. How much better are Portugal and the Czech Republic as opposed to Switzerland and Turkey, the other two teams in their group? A lot better. Maybe. The truth is that when it comes to World Soccer, as opposed to club team play, some teams do very well in tournaments and other teams do not. It’s strange but a team like the South Koreans could just be awesome in the 2002 World Cup and then suck four years later. The same goes for the U.S. in 1988 or 2002. Crazy things tend to happen and a long-shot invariably pulls a soccer betting upset against a team like Portugal or the Czechs. Let’s take a closer at the first Group A Euro Cup betting opportunity between Switzerland and the Czech Republic: Switzerland vs. Czech Republic. Switzlerand pk – 115 + 165 O 2 - 105 Czech Republic pk – 105 + 165 U 2 - 115 Draw + 225 Switzerland - ½ + 165 Czech Republic + ½ - 200 As with all BetUS online sportsbook wagering the idea is to go ahead and find a wager that makes sense. It doesn’t matter whether we are making online wagers on football or futbol. We need to find a wager where we will get the most return for our investment. That means going with the underdog or the team that is getting above even money soccer betting odds. To me, that online betting wager is on the Czech Republic at + 165 on the money-line. First, let’s forget all about taking the ½ a goal on the Czech Republic at – 200. Even though the ½ a goal could help us, why bother? The Draw on the board is + 225. Those online odds are much better and make much more sense in a game where punters are obviously torn as to who they feel will win. But, I’m not even willing to make a wager on the draw. Yes, these two teams are definitely evenly matched. Most soccer teams in Euro 2008 are, but there’s something about the Czech’s that really makes me feel that they will show up in this tournament. Their goalkeeper, Peter Cech, is the best in the world. In a game where goals, even one, will be at a premium, I’m going with the goalkeeper that I know will keep that ball out of the net. That would be the Czech Republic. I’ll be making a 2008 Euro wager on the Czech’s to win the game straight-up on the money-line at + 165 sports betting odds.
