England's Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington offered outstanding odds heading into the US Masters Final Round on Sunday. Casey, who stood the best shot of winning the jacket being only four down from the lead, would pay out $750 for every $100 bet at Sportingbet.
Harrington, who won last year's British Open, was within striking distance, holding onto the number 10 position. He would pay out $8000 for every $100 bet. Though Padraig Harrington was a long shot heading into the final round, he was also a major underdog during the 2007 British Open. Ireland's largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, reported its biggest losses of the year thanks to the Harrington bets.
This is one of the fears for companies like Sportingbet and Paddy Power heading into Sunday.
"British, Scottish, Irish, Welsh gamblers will be all over Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington," Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien predicted Sunday morning. "A win by either is likely to result in big losses for the British and Irish bookmakers."
