It all started as a rumor on the popular poker forum 2+2, today, however, it was confirmed that the online payment processor "ePassporte" is shutting down service to the online gambling and poker industries allowing American players. According to a statement by ePassporte, the decision by the e-wallet to stop deposits to online poker and gambling websites in the U.S. stems from "a widespread investigation of Internet gambling, including poker, by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Southern New York...Although we do not believe we have done anything illegal, we do not wish to be associated with anything that might be considered illegal by the United States Government," the ePassporte statement continues, as quoted by the website Gambling911.
No further details have been released, it remains unknown whether funds of poker and casino players will be frozen, although poker players report that withdrawal transactions from ePassporte continue to go through. All online poker rooms and gambling websites have already removed the ePassporte as a method of depositing money by US customers.
