Default WSJ falls in behind push for regulated US online gaming industry ... - bingostreet.co

Major US business and financial publication the Wall Street Journal has published an article in which it seems to support the concept of a regulated and licensed online gambling industry in the US that would replace the current regime dominated by UIGEA.

In an op-ed article, the Journal comments that the current proposal by Congressman Barney Frank to exchange UIGEA with his Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) is a step in the right direction in resolving the many problems brought about by UIGEA.

Should the US eventually reverse its current anti-online gambling policy, online bingo games operators and online bingo halls from the rest of the world would be able to re-enter the lost US market. Online bingo was badly hit by the implementation of UIGEA in late 2006.

Commenting on the current state of US online gambling policy the article opines: "For a change, the Europeans stand on the side of free trade, while America dabbles in regulatory overreach."

The Journal then describes the current international litigation being brought against the US by the European Union on grounds that UIGEA discriminates against EU companies.
