US Congressman Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) is starting to cause headaches amongst anti-online gambling advocates. IGREA has seen a steady stream of sponsors pledge their support to the bill which would replace the current and controversial Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

In an item by Paul M. Weyrich of the Free Congress Research and Education Foundation, gambling is described as "...a particularly destructive addiction, falsely leading people to believe that if they just bet on one more game they will turn a profit. In reality, many destroy their finances, their marriages and their lives." There was no attempt in the article to back up these claims with supporting statistics.
