Gambling, in its many variations, is all about hard-and-fast numbers. That's particularly true with a big-time sports event such as the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
When the tournament ends tonight, it will close a gambling phenomenon participated in by 37 million people, as estimated by the Chicago personnel firm of Challenger, Gray & ******mas.
USA Today sports analyst Danny Sheridan estimated last year that $6 billion is wagered illegally on the tournament, trailing only the $8.5 billion of illegal betting each year on the Super Bowl.
