Police Detain 12 People In Online Gambling Raids

BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 8 (Bernama) -- Police detained 12 people and seized 45 computers in several raids on cybercafes in an operation on online gambling here over the past week.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Mohd Shah Hussin Shah said the operation also led to the seizure of liquor and cigarettes smuggled from a neighbouring country.

He said the suspects aged 20-67 were investigated under Section 4B(a), Common Gaming House Act 1953 for operating gambling activities via the internet.

If convicted, the 12 suspects could be fined up to RM100,000 and jailed a maximum five years.
