Default Bodog Poker Pro Evelyn Ng Faces Off Against Online Poker Players

The next round of Bodog's Tournament Leader Board heads-up matches took place in the Bodog Poker room with Bodog pro Evelyn Ng taking on two online poker players who were the winner's of their respective weeks.

First up it was the winner for the week of March 31 to April 6, "vinnyb9." On the line was a $3,000 cash prize that has rolled over from other player's failed attempt to take out a Bodog pro. On this occasion, though, "vinnyb9″ was successful and walked away with some well-deserved extra cash.

Next up was Bodog regular Johnathan "UFPokerStar" Westra. He was in the unfortunate position of meeting Ng after her loss to "vinnb9″ and she extracted her vengeance, sending him home with nothing to show for winning the week of April 7 to 13. We did just find out that he qualified for the $12,000 2008 WSOP Main Event prize package, so he has that going for him.

Get in on some online poker tournament action and work your way up the Bodog weekly tournament leader board and get a free crack at one of Bodog's poker pros and some serious dough. And if you want to be a part of Team Bodog at the 2008 WSOP, then head over to Bodog and check out the 2008 WSOP online poker qualifiers.

    Default is it illegal anywhere?

I know that poker, online casinos and other such things are banned in some states so I was wondering-in which states is online poker illegal?

I haven't had one of those old-fashioned poker nights in such a long time!

As far as the comparison between online and old-fashioned, I would say that either or both are not for everybody, I think it depends on how personal you want your game to be.

It is like a weekend thing for me too. It helps me unwind after a long hard day of work. After I have my supper and if there isn't anything good on tv, I open up my laptop and start playing

Default AGA Clarifies Position on Online Poker

AGA Clarifies Position on Online Poker and Internet Gambling Legislation

American Gaming Association President and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Fahrenkopf, wrote a letter to the Las Vegas Review Journal to clarify the AGA's position towards Internet gambling in reponse to the op-ed piece LVRJ published entitled "Wanna Bet?".

The LVRJ piece had said that "Mr. Fahrenkopf and the AGA are lukewarm on Internet gambling because it poses a competitive threat to brick-and-mortar casinos."

The esteemed gaming executive denied that AGA was lukewarm, and stressed that, "In fact, some of our member companies have been vocal about their interest in getting into this sector of the business should it be legalized."

Industry observers note that several AGA members already have online gambling ventures in the European market, making them better prepared should the USA online gambling market re-open.

    AGA IS WORRIED THOUGH

Fahrenkopf then went on to raise AGA's concern with legislation to legalize and regulate Internet gambling on a federal level as it could threaten the long-held rights of individual states. He also cautioned that moving too fast could result in inadequate "protections to prevent underage gambling online and to safeguard those who may have gambling problems."

Following its Board meeting over the issue, in January 2007 Helen Thomsen of the association stated, "The AGA supports a study of online gambling in the US being congressionally funded. Such a study would look into how online gambling could be properly regulated and controlled

Fahrenkopf reiterated that position, and said AGA wants to slow down legalization and regulation to allow time to study the surrounding complex issues, as outlined in the 12-month long Internet Gambling Study Act introduced by Reps Shelley Berkley and Jon Porter of Nevada last spring. That Study bill currently has 68 co-sponsor signatures compared to the 48 Congressional co-sponsors of Frank's bill.

Default California online gambling study bill moves forward

A California bill that will explore whether or not a California-only online poker service would be legal under federal law has made a step toward going to a vote in the California legislature.

On Wednesday, the Committee on Governmental Organization moved to approve the bill with a vote of 11-0 and passed it on to the Committee on Appropriations.

That takes the bill, AB 2026 The Gambling Control/California Intrastate Online Poker Act, one step closer to being put up for vote in the legislature.

The bill was introduced in the legislature by Assemblyman Lloyd Levin in February, and if passed, would direct the California Gambling Control Commission to work with the state Department of Justice in order to study whether online gambling for California residents would be illegal under federal laws.

What Levine seeks to have answered is whether online gambling run in California just for California residents would be legal according to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. According to the UIGEA, the states have a right to legalize and regulate intrastate online gambling.

When Levine introduced the bill, he told media that the federal law appears to leave room for states to legalize online gambling as long as the player and the server hosting the online game are both located in the state. His bill is an effort to determine if that is true.

Levine's bill will need to get approval from the Committee on Appropriations as its next step to a vote. However, if it is approved, and the study shows that intrastate regulation is legal and feasible, California could eventually look into setting up intrastate online poker and gambling for its residents.

"It would be regulated," Levine said in Capitol Weekly. "We don't know what the state's piece will be, but it will be a regulated entity."

Levine has also stated that he believes regulated online gambling in the state will ensure consumer protection for online gamblers. For instance, players will have recourse if a site refuses to pay them if they're on a legal site, playing legally.

Default Obama, Clinton: What about Poker?

    Obama, Clinton: What about Poker?

As Hillary and Barack fight for the votes, many poker players are asking the same question: Where do the Democrats stand when it comes to Gambling?

Senior executive at Harrah's Entertainment and, conveniently, the co-chairperson of the National Women's Business Council of the Clinton Campaign, Jan Jones, reflect on Clinton's support for gambling last Friday. "What we have found in every instance," explains Jones, "when you create an economic engine that drives job creation and encourages capital investment, you have an industry that builds community and provides livelihood."

Speaking to the online gamblers of America, Jones clarifies Clinton's support for the gambling community as stronger than Obama's. She believed this due to the admiration Obama showed for the Illinois Governor's rejection of casino gambling while a member of the his state's Senate.

    Obama's Thoughts
Since then, Obama defined himself as a supporter of the casino industry. He explains that his comments in the Illinois Senate were directly relevant to the Illinois situation and their lobbying methods.

Obama replied to Jones' comments by explaining the importance of allowing voters to decide whether they should gamble or not.

    Different Party, Different Plan
A victory by the Democratic Party will mean major changes in the gambling community of America and its affected neighbors (such as Costa Rica, whose economy has dropped since their online gambling sites have been blocked from American use).

In 2006, the Republican Party had created the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, banning online gambling on American soil. It is in the gambling community's interest to have a Democrat in the White House, so that citizens may gamble if they wish to.

This election is giving US citizens a chance to decide if online gambling is what the people want. Obviously, an American election is not so black-and-white, but when it comes to gambling, it's either a Blue Donkey or Red Elephant.

Default Playboy Gaming Secures Sponsorship of Prodigal Poker Pro

    LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - April 18, 2008) -

    Attention: Business & Technology Editors

PlayboyGaming.com have pulled off an amazing coup by securing the sponsorship of a prodigal poker pro who's had the major online poker rooms clamoring for his signature.

Dennis Plejdrup, a young Dane, also known by his online alias "dazzy", lives in Aarhus and worked as a financial adviser before becoming a poker pro in January 2006.

Since turning pro, Plejdrup's high stakes play and incredible success have established him as one of the hottest properties in online poker and as a result he's attracted huge sponsorship interest from the world's largest online poker sites.

However, for Plejdrup there was only ever going to be one poker room that he'd be prepared to align himself with; "I started to play poker because of the challenge in it, since there are so many aspects of it and I've always been searching for "a good business". PlayboyGaming offers a range of tables with a variety of skill levels allowing me to stay challenged and enjoy my game.." he told us "Playboy are a well trusted international brand and I know they look after their players well. I'm looking forward to having a long and profitable relationship with them"

Plejdrup has also started to make a name for himself offline, recently winning the 500 EUR No Limit Hold 'em event at the EPT Grand Finale, Monte Carlo and also made the final table at No Limit Hold 'em events at EPT Prague & Warsaw.

So remember the name Dennis Plejdrup; 2008 could well be both his and PlayboyGaming's year!
