Default WSOP Main event day 2

WSOP Main event day 2

Sometimes in poker there are bad days. Unfortunately day 2 of the main event was one of these for me.

I entered day two with an above average starting stack over just over 57,000. From the very first hand my day and chip stack went the wrong direction. The first hand I was dealt JJ in 1st position and made a standard 3x raise. It folded all the way to the big blind who called. The flop came out Q x x . He led into me for 2200 and I called. The turn was another small card and he checked. I bet 4600 and as soon as my chips hit the pot he announced he was all in. He didn't have me covered but I would have been left with 9k, so I folded. During the next 2 hours I couldn't get anything going. I picked up AA 2 times and both times got the blinds and antes only. My chip stack stayed between 40-44k for several hours. It seemed I couldn't pick up any decent sized pots.

For 4 hours the 2 players to my right were relentless on beating on my blinds. A few times I picked up some pots with re steals but was waiting to play a big pot and look for a double up against one of them since they were very eager to get a ton of chips in the pot every time they played a hand. After 5 hours of waiting patiently and maintaining my chips I found a spot to potentially pick up chips. It folded to the aggressive player who raised as he always did when folded to him. I looked down to see KK and decided to play it a bit risky and try to extract some chips from him. I just flat called and checked the 10 62 flop to him and he immediately bet. I thought about what I wanted to do here. I decided to flat call the bet, and check raise the turn since this player had shown 4 or 5 times already to bet all 3 streets and then muck his hand when his opponent called the river bet. I knew he was capable of firing huge amounts with nothing but air. When the turn landed another 10 this kind of put a kink in my plans, I had to put the brakes on a bit , since it didn't appear to be a great card for me but I wasn't too worried. I check called the 5k turn bet. The river landed to 3 and I checked it to him again. He thought for a bit and bet 14k. I couldn't get myself to fold my hand at this point and made the call. He flipped up 10-8 for the winner.

I couldn't blame anyone but myself for losing this hand, I decided to play It risky to try to win a big pot and it backfired. Slow playing comes with risk and this time it didn't work out. I was still alive with 14k chips at this point. The back breaker came when it was folded to the same player on the button and he made it 2400, and was called by the small blind. I looked down to see AQ suited and pushed my last 14k in the middle. The button raiser called and the other guy folded. He flipped up AJ and I was set for a double up back to 30k and right back in the game. The board came out 2 4 7 7 2 and it was a heartbreaking chop.

A few hands later I got all my chips in on the nut flush draw and bricked out to send me to the rail.

Day 2 of the main event is a day I hope to soon forget. I already cant wait for next year.
