Denver is sure to be fired-up returning home after suffering a 114-106 road loss on Sunday to the lowly Sacramento Kings.

But are the Nuggets worthy of laying this many points to such a quality opponent?

Denver is not playing well, having lost seven of its past 10 games. The Nuggets have failed to cover in four of the past five times they've been favored.

Houston is 10-2 in its last 12 games. The Rockets are battling for a high playoff seeding. They also played on Sunday, but had no trouble dispatching a bad Memphis Grizzlies team. No Houston player went more than 33 minutes.

By contrast, Denver had four players who logged more than 36 minutes on Sunday. Veteran Chauncey Billups played 43:36. Carmelo Anthony and Nene each played close to 39 minutes. Streak shooter J.R. Smith went more than 36 minutes.

This marks Denver's fourth game in five days. The Nuggets just got into town following two consecutive road games. So it's not a good situational spot for them.

This is a one-unit play for me.

Phillips Arena in Atlanta Georgia will be the site of tonight’s battle between the host Atlanta Hawks and the visiting New Orleans Hornets. New Orleans will be looking to extend their season-high seven-game win streak with a win in ATL on Monday night. This is the first game of a four-game road trip for the boys from the Big Easy they will play four-games in six days. The road has not been the best place to back the Hornets as they are 16-13 SU but only 11-17 ATS on the highway this season including 2-7 ATS their last 9. The Hawks halted a two-game skid with a home win over Detroit on Saturday night 87 to 83 as a 3 point home favorite. In that win Atlanta’s Josh Smith scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds all this one night after being involved in a halftime altercation with Atlanta coach Mike Woodson. It appeared the altercation woke up this Hawks team and it couldn’t have come at a better time as they are fighting to hold onto fourth place in the division as Miami is just 1 ½ games back. These two teams have met once this season with the Hawks winning at New Orleans 87 to 79 as an 8.5 point road underdog. That win snapped a four-game losing skid in this series and should give the Hawks the confidence they need to capture a win on their home floor tonight. Atlanta has been a tough out at home this season posting a record of 21-7 SU and 15-13 against the spread averaging 99.2 points per game and allowing 93.9 points per game. A check of the database signals a play against the Hornets as they are 12-27 ATS as a road favorite after winning ATS in their last game, if the line range is even to 2.5 they are 1-7 ATS. If New Orleans won SU/ATS and went ‘over’ the posted total in their last game they are 3-11 ATS, as a favorite they are 0-8 ATS and as a road favorite they are 0-5 ATS. The Hornets haven’t fared well after winning their previous game against the spread and then having to face the Hawks in Atlanta they are 0-5 ATS in this situation. Finally we see that NBA teams coming off three consecutive SU/ATS wins and are now installed as a non-conference road favorite have struggled going 38-73-1 ATS. Take the points with the host as they get winner number 22 and cash the ticket for us on Monday night.

I'm laying the points with SIENA.

These teams both had excellent regular seasons and were clearly the two top teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. That was expected from the Saints but one could argue that the Purple Eagles over-achieved somewhat. Either way, here they are squaring off against each other in the MAAC title game for the third time in the last eight years. While I respect the Purple Eagles, I still believe that the Saints are the stronger team. Perhaps more importantly, they've got the "situation" in their favor here. The Saints appear to be peaking at the right time, as they're coming off back to back double-digit victories. Note that yesterday's 80-65 victory started at 6:30pm EST. On the other hand, Niagara is coming off an exhausting "thriller" against Rider last night, a game which started at 8:30pm EST. I use words like "exhausting" and "thriller," as the Purple Eagles needed a "30 foot prayer" at the end of regulation to force overtime. The first overtime period would solve nothing, with Niagara eventually winning in double-overtime. I believe that type of "gruelling" late night victory will make it very tough on the Purple Eagles here. In addition to facing a powerful Siena squad, they also have to play on the Saints' home floor. Note that the teams split a pair of meetings this season with the home team winning by double-digits each time. In fact, the Saints are 4-0 SU and 3-0-1 ATS the last four times they were a host in this series, each of the last three victories coming by double-digits. Including this season's earlier victory, when they were favored by 5.5 points, the Saints are 5-1 ATS the last six times that they were listed as home favorites in the -3.5 to -6 range. Looking back further and we find them at 15-9-2 ATS the last 26 times that they were home favorites in this range. You may remember the Saints scoring a decisive victory over Vandy in the Big Dance last year. They brought back all the same players from that team and anything less than another Conf. Tournament title and another trip to the tournament will be a major disappointment. Look for them to be the fresher team as they earn the big win and cover the relatively small number along the way.
