| 1. Miami Dolphins - Glenn Dorsey (DT, LSU) - After the team’s accidental slip-up in choices of words at this week’s press conference, one has to think that the pick will be on the defensive side of the ball. I could definitely see Parcells being high on a guy like Dorsey. Then again, this could all be a big “smoke screen” in order to stir up the rest of the draft. The Dolphins do hold all the power with the number one pick, after all. As with every year’s draft, we’ll have to wait and see. Other options: Jake Long, Vernon Gholston, Chris Long 2. St. Louis Rams - Chris Long (DE, Virginia) - There is some speculation that this pick could be traded for more picks later on in the first and second rounds, however, the team likes Long a lot if they don’t hear any trade offers worth pursuing. He could be a dominant force opposite Adam Carriker on the defensive line. Other options: trade, Jake Long 3. Atlanta Falcons - Jake Long (OT, Michigan) - With the retirement of Steve McNair, it’s a possibility that the Ravens will try and move to this spot to assure themselves of Matt Ryan. The Falcons do need a quarterback, however, so it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see them take Ryan here. I am a firm believer that they would rather get a solid tackle like Long here and settle for a guy like Joe Flacco or Chad Henne in the second round. Other options: Matt Ryan 4. Oakland Raiders - Vernon Gholston (DE, Ohio State) - I personally don’t believe that Gholston is quite worthy of going this high, but a lot of teams like his athleticism and physicality. The Raiders’ dream scenario would be to pick up the son of former Raider great himself Howie Long here, however, I don’t think he will still be around. Other options: Darren McFadden, Ryan Clady 5. Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady (OT, Boise State) - The Chiefs will almost surely be taking a tackle here to help protect future QB Brodie Croyle. It’s just a matter of who their highest on besides Jake Long as he will almost assuredly be gone by this point. Other options: trade, Matt Ryan, Sedrick Ellis 6. N.Y. Jets - Darren McFadden (RB, Arkansas) - The Jets would love to take a shutdown corner here, but there aren’t really any worthy of going this high in this particular class. They’re also in love with Vernon Gholston, but he’ll be gone already so they’ll end up getting maybe the best talent in the draft in McFadden. Other options: Derrick Harvey, Quentin Groves Grab the rest of this article, plus previews, free picks and betting advice at Betus... Last edited by Qbins Missile Crisis : 04-21-2008 at 01:20 PM. |
