NFL Fran Tarkenton on Brett Farve

Fran Tarketon recently went off on the whole Brett Farve situation going as far as saying that if does go and play for the Vikings, he hopes Farve fails miserably.

“I think it’s despicable. What he put the Packers through last year was not good. Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players. It just wasn’t about Brett Favre. In this day and time, we have glorified the Brett Favre’s of the world so much, they think it’s about them. He goes to New York and bombs. He’s 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year (playing for) the Vikings, or I retire, and go play for the Packers. I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail
Pretty strong words from the ex-Minnesota great.

I used to have repect for Tarkenton. This is just a cheap shot. Hey Fran, I guess Favre holding on is kinda like your bad attempt at TV, hosting "That's Incredible". You know what's incredible? The inability of an NFL great to keep his mouth shut!

I love Franny for coming out like this...I am not sure I would use the word despicable but I think you can't keep patting a guy on the back for being selfish.

I usually don't buy into that whole tarnished legacy thing but I think Favre is coming close. Especially given he has always been one of those polarizing, love/hate kind of guys.

If he wants to play then just shout it out loud.

Good for Fran -- I agree with what he's saying for the most part.

Question -- where does a guy like Ray Bourque fit into this debate? Stayed with Boston for almost his entire career but got his wish and was dealt to Colorado to win a cup. Seems like if the guy plays well in his new surroundings, people don't condemn him...

Brett is just being Brett. I'm not to sure he is worried about his legacy quite yet. Fran just doesn't want to see someone else do something he couldn't do- win a superbowl!

Sometimes people do and say things just to get their name in the press. I don't agree with everything that Farve has done both this off season and last year, but I can't hold wanting to still play against him.
