Vikings Face the Cowboys in NFC Action
Two of the favorites to win the NFC Conference will try and fine tune their third and fourth string teams on both offense and defense on Thursday night when the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys take the field.
The Vikings have already stated that they are going to rest their starters. I expect the Cowboys to do the same. That presents a set of issues for NFL betting fans. Who is going to step up in the wake of a bench full of starters and a field full of bench players?
The Vikings will play both Brooks Bollinger, whose career has been well short of average since breaking into the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, and John David Booty. Booty could be a surprise player this season in the NFL should Tarvaris Jackson go down with injury.
Tarvaris, the Vikings’ starter and by all indications a much improved player from a year ago, takes a lot of chances on the field. That’s not a good thing for a quarterback. He already hurt himself in one of these pre-season games. What’s going to happen during the regular season?
That’s why the play of both Bollinger and Booty are important in this game on Thursday night. Online football betting fans should definitely pay attention to this game for that reason, but there’s an actual reason to make a bet on this game that has something to do with the quarterback position for both teams. I’ll get to that after we take a look at the NFL online betting odds.
Here are the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds for this game:
Minnesota Vikings + 3 - 110 + 135 O 34 ½ - 110
Dallas Cowboys - 3 - 110 - 155 U 34 ½ - 110
The key in this game is to understand that the Vikings, even without their starters in the line-up, will no doubt play with some urgency. They have a lot to prove going into the regular season.
This isn’t the case for the Dallas Cowboys who, if anything, have very few question marks regarding their roster. I doubt that Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones are on the fence regarding a lot of the players in their first and second team offenses and defenses. Not only that but Felix Jones and Michael Jenkins, the Cowboys’ first round draft picks, should get a lot of playing time on Thursday night.
That makes this game tough to call, right? Not really. Brad Johnson, the back-up quarterback in Dallas is over forty years old. That makes him an old man in football betting terms. He probably won’t play more than a quarter or so because the Cowboys’ other two quarterbacks have no chance of ever starting in the NFL.
That’s not true for John David Booty who the Vikings will expect to step in this season should Tarvaris Jackson go down. Because of Booty, I like the Vikings to win this game on Thursday night at the very nice online wagering odds of + 135.
That’s the online bet that I’m going to make - - on the Minnesota Vikings to beat the Dallas Cowboys at the BetUS online wagering odds of + 135.
