NFL Pre-Season Preview - Picks - Predictions Peterson, Vikings face Flacco, Ravens
Game-day: 8/16/2008
The Minnesota Vikings might want to take it easy on Adrian Peterson this pre-season. NFL betting fans know that the fortunes of the Vikings in the 2008 – 2009 NFL Season are squarely on the shoulders of their superstar running back. Viking management had better understand that.
Peterson has a history of getting hurt. It’s his style that’s the issue. He’s a serious load and because he runs super fast, it’s like he’s hitting a brick wall when he gets tackled. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Adrian Peterson! I just hope that the Vikings don’t get out of control with the guy ala the Houston Oilers and Earl Campbell in the late 70’s early 80’s.
The Baltimore Ravens are looking for a starting quarterback. Troy Smith, the former Heisman Trophy winner, has the inside track but I wouldn’t put it past the Ravens to actually go with Joe Flacco on day one. The one guy that I know they won’t start in Week 1, who is listed as number one on their depth chart, is Kyle Boller. Boller has proven to be a loser. The Ravens need to find a winner. That’s all there is to that!
Here are the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds in this game.
Minnesota Vikings + 2 ½ - 110 + 125 O 33 ½ - 110
Baltimore Ravens - 2 ½ - 110 - 145 U 33 ½ - 110
Did I say that the Ravens were looking for a starting quarterback? How about the Minnesota Vikings who aren’t sure that starter Tarvaris Jackson is the answer? The Vikings currently have four quarterbacks on their roster: Jackson, veteran Gus Frerotte, rookie John David Booty and veteran Brooks Bollinger.
Out of the four I actually like Booty to eventually step up during the regular season and secure the starting position. Jackson has no touch on his long ball and to me that’s going to due him in eventually in the NFL betting. Frerotte is a capable back-up but that’s pretty much it. I have no idea why Bollinger is even on the team at this point.
In any case for this game I expect the Vikings to give Frerotte and Booty a lot of snaps. That might give the Vikings an edge over Flaaco, Troy Smith and the Baltimore Ravens. Then again, Smith is a true winner and winners usually play very well in the pre-season where they ultimately get hyped up by writers like me.
The Ravens are also at home. The Vikings will play Peterson sparingly. They might not even start their prize free agent acquisition on defense, Jared Allen. If that’s the case, then the Ravens are the smarter online wager at – 2 ½ – 110 in the BetUS online sportsbook.
I’m going to go with it. I’ll be making an online football bet on the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Minnesota Vikings at the online odds of – 2 ½ - 110.
