NFL week 2 Pre-Season Betting Preview - Texans and Saints Meet in Saturday Pre Season Action
Week 2 NFL preseason betting continues with a huge slate of games Saturday night, and one of the more intriguing match-ups finds the (1-0) Houston Texans taking its show on the road to the Louisiana Superdome to lock horns with the (1-0) New Orleans Saints.
Texans HC Gary Kubiak had to be happy with his offensive production in their 19-16 win over his former team, the Denver Broncos, in the pres-seasons first full week of betting action.
Their running game, which has historically struggled, put up 140 yards on the Denver ‘D’, but they had to settle for four Kris Brown field goals, including the game-winner from 25-yards out as time expired.
That field goal salvaged a push for Texans bettors, but did let the game exceed the 34.5 point ‘total’. The Houston QBs were sharp, as they completed 18 of their 25 passes on the night. QB Sage Rosenfels paced the group going 10/15 for 137 yards and threw the offense’s only touchdown.
Rookie RB Steve Slaton did it all for the Texans, recording 63 all-purpose yards. Expect to see a lot more of Slaton in this preseason, as the third round pick out of West Virginia tries to play his way into an already crowded Houston backfield. Jamar Fletcher and Nick Ferguson both intercepted passes for the Texans defense.
The Saints put forth one of the more impressive showings the first week of the preseason, traveling to Arizona and knocking off the Cardinals 24-10 in a game that was televised nationally on ESPN.
HC Sean Payton had to be proud of his second and third stringers as they outscored the Cardinals 17-0 in the second half to easily cover the point spread as underdogs for Saints bettors.
QBs Tyler Palko and Mark Brunell were sharp as they competed for the backup roll combining to go 16/23 for 263 yards and a touchdown. Former University of Tennessee star WR Robert Meachem had 129 receiving yards, including a 60-yard catch and run for the game’s final touchdown in the 4th quarter.
The defense was sharp, only allowing the Cardinals to convert on two of their eleven third downs, and six different Saints recorded sacks on the night.
The NFL Betting trends offer up some mixed results in this clash between two teams that are typically strong in the preseason.
