Week 2 NFLX Preseason Betting Preview

NFL bettors get to test their wits in the final game of Week 2’s Saturday night NFL preseason betting slate when the (0-1) Chicago Bears make the treck to the Pacific Northwest to battle the (1-0) Seattle Seahawks at Qwest Field; kick-off is scheduled for 9:00 ET.



Bears HC Lovie Smith wasn’t pleased with the output put forth by his first unit considering they went into the locker room trailing the Chiefs 14-3, but his second and third stringers got the Bears right back in the game by scoring 14-unanswered points in the third quarter to take a 17-14 lead.

They ended up losing the game by a 24-20 final count failing to cover the 3.5-point spread, and the combined 44 points soared over the closing ‘total’ of 34. Both QB’s Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman were for the most part ineffective, which made it possible for 3rd string QB Caleb Hanie to steal the spotlight after completing 9-of-16 passes for 101 yards and a TD.

The performance has sparked speculation that he just might own the tools necessary to be the Bears starting QB come the start of the regular season. That said; he’ll have to prove he can get the job done against an opponents’ first string defense before the hype’s warranted.

The Seahawks looked unstoppable last week against the Vikings, but that’s certainly going to happen in a pre-season game when you’re the beneficiary of five turnovers; it also helped their cause that Minnesota decided to play a very vanilla zone scheme defensively throughout the entire game.

Starting QB Matt Hasselbeck went 7-of-8 for 70 yards and a touchdown and the Seahawks racked up 187 total yards in three series against the Vikings' defensive starters. The 34-17 preseason victory allowed Seattle bettors to cash their tickets with ease. Back-up QB Seneca Wallace also had a huge night completing 15-of-20 passes for 165 yards and three TDs.

QB Rex Grossman gets the starting nod for the Bears this week with Orton to follow, and Hanie will once again close it out. Charlie Frye took a majority of the snaps with the first team offense this week and is expected to start followed by Seneca Wallace. It looks as if Hasselbeck will sit this one out due to tightness in his back.

Seattle won and covered both of its 2007 home pre-season games a year ago knocking off Minnesota 30-13 as six-point home chalks and getting the best of Oakland, 19-14, as three-point choices.

Chicago won both of its pre-season road games last year but pushed both ATS winning 20-19 as one-point favorites at Houston, and 27-24 as three-point favorites against the Indianapolis Colts. The over went a combined 6-2 ATS in both of these team eight pre-season games in ’07.

With Hasselbeck’s injury, the NFL wagering public bought as much of the Bears at the opener of (+3) as they could get.
