The Eagles were a real-life soap opera in 2007, while breaking even with an 8-8 record overall and against the spread. Having finished dead last in the NFC East for the 2nd time in 3 years, there is nowhere to go but up for the Eagles in 2008. The Philly management has been active in putting the team in position to be competitive immediately. There is plenty of room for optimism since they were plagued by injuries last year, and should have been a much better team than their record indicated. While the Eagles struck out of their offseason attempts to acquire an established top-flight wide receiver, they have managed to add more speed to their offense.

Keep an eye on the possible trade demands of CB Lito Sheppard. If Philadelphia can manage to keep him and he plays hard, the Eagles will be virtually impossible to pass against. Another question is at QB. If Donovan McNabb can stay healthy, the offense should move very well and possibly play over the number more than the 7 times they did in 2007. Draft choice DeSean Jackson has a good chance of contributing as a No. 3 receiver, and can help reduce Brian Westbrook’s chances of being injured.

If he does not see a lot of action as a wideout, the Eagles are hoping Jackson can make an immediate impact as a return man. RB Lorenzo Booker is a great fit for the wide-open Eagles’ offense, and his hands and speed will give opposing defensive coordinators fits. The Eagles added a lot of depth in the draft that should show benefits right away. If this team stays healthy, look for them to climb out of the NFC East’s basement.
