New Orleans Saints
2007 Record: 7-9
ATS: 6-10
Super Bowl Odds: 25-1
New Orleans went into the 2007 season full of promise, coming off a division win and a trip to the NFC Championship game. The Saints came out and left fans wondered what was going on after starting the season 0-4. Granted, the first 3 losses of the season came again the Colts, Bucs & Titans – all of who made the playoffs. From there the Saints got their act together and reeled off 4 straight wins, giving them hope that the playoffs were still possible. For the remainder of the season New Orleans was mediocre, ending up with a 7-9 record overall despite being a solid 10-6 against the spread.
The 2008 season will be all about returning to the successful level that was expected last year. They re-signed 3 of their WR & RB Aaron Stecker on offense, and acquired CB’s Aaron Glenn and Randall Gay as well as LB’s Dan Morgan and Jonathan Vilma. Finally, they inked QB Mark Brunell to back up Drew Brees. From there the Saints had a great draft, trading up to take defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis, who was ranked ahead of Glenn Dorsey by some scouts. Not all of these improvements will pay off right away thanks to a tough schedule; unfortunately for the Saints, they have to play the AFC West this year.
So besides having to suit up against their own improved division, the Saints have to play an improved Raiders squad, the Chargers at Wembley Stadium in London & the Broncos and Chiefs on the road. However, there is no doubt that the Saints can win the NFC South simply because they have a defense built to stop the rest of their division.
