Indianapolis Colts
2007 Record: 13-3
ATS: 9-7
Super Bowl Odds: 7-1
Remember the Colts? It wasn’t that long ago that Indy’s football club was the toast of the league, winning the Super Bowl and putting its QB into every commercial on television. However, The Patriots’ 16-0 season in 2007 knocked Peyton Manning & company out of the spotlight, and their one-and-done performance in the playoffs failed to impress. Believe it or not, Indy enters the 2008 campaign as a bit of a dark horse. Of course, the Colts did manage to win the AFC South division with a 13-3 record last season & in Manning they still have an elite-level QB. Manning didn’t match Tom Brady in offensive numbers last season, but he still threw 31 TD strikes and racked up over 4000 passing yards.
Moreover, that was with minimal help from star WR Marvin Harrison, who was limited to 5 games & 20 receptions by injuries. Harrison’s absence gave more playing time to Anthony Gonzalez, and that duo along with Reggie Wayne & TE Dallas Clark will give opposing secondaries first in 2008. RB Joseph Addai improved his rookie campaign with 12 TD runs & 3 TD catches last year, and he’s become an integral part of the Colts’ offense.
Defensively the Colts dominated in 2007- they allowed fewer points than any other team in the league & safety Bob Sanders won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award. Star defensive end Dwight Freeney played only 9 games last year due to a foot injury & the Colts hope that he can turn in a healthy 2008 season. Indy’s playoff loss to the Chargers was painful last season, but they have all the parts in place to get back to the championship.
