NFL teams use the exhibition schedule to prepare for the regular season, and that's exactly what football betting fans can do at betED.com, which has NFL betting lines for all 16 games slated for Week 1 of the preseason, which kicks off Thursday with five tilts.




The Super Bowl champion New York Giants get it started with a road game against the Detroit Lions. betED.com has the Lions as a 3-point favorite and the over/under total at 33.

The game will be the first the Giants will play without star defensive end Michael Strahan, who retired in June.

Quarterback Eli Manning is expected to play up to half the game, but three other pivots - Anthony Wright, David Carr, and rookie sixth-round pick Andre Woodson - are all likely to get rotations.

Carr, the No. 1 overall pick of the Houston Texans in 2002, will be fighting Wright for the back-up job behind Manning.

Another game Thursday has the Baltimore Ravens visiting the New England Patriots, who were upset by the Giants in Super Bowl XLII last February.

Veteran Kyle Boller will be the starting quarterback for the Ravens as he battles former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and rookie first-round pick Joe Flacco for the starting job. Boller completed 168-of-275 passes for 1,743 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games for the Ravens last season.

Other matchups Thursday: New York Jets at Cleveland Browns, with Cleveland a 3½ - point favorite; Kansas City Chiefs at Chicago Bears, with the Bears favored by 3; and New Orleans Saints at Arizona Cardinals, with Arizona a 2-point favorite.
