Dallas Cowboys
2007 Record: 13-3
ATS: 9-7
Super Bowl Odds: 9-1
If you are a Cowboys fan, you definitely had a case of déjà vu last season. Dallas’ 2007 campaign mirrored its 2006 season in many ways. QB Tony Romo started the year hot and the Cowboys looked like the teams to beat in the division. They were the favorites in the NFC until another late-season collapse. The Cowboys were upset 21-17 by the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants, ending any shot at bringing a championship to Dallas. Heading into this season, they have all the tools once again and it is only a question of ‘will they finally put it all together?’ Adding Pacman Jones to the club will be a boom-or-bust pickup, once he is fully reinstated.
If Jones is able to stay out of trouble, he will give Dallas one of the best secondary’s in the NFL and raise the defense to an entirely new level. Top draft pick Felix Jones should immediately help in the Cowboy’s return game, and will compliment bull rusher RM Marion Barber as a shifty, change of pace back. For o/u bettors, the Cowboys were a profitable bet last season at 10-6. That should not change since the offense will continue to put up big numbers. The most important issue for the Cowboys’ chances of going deep into the postseason will be Romo proving that he is not a playoff choke artist. If you are a Cowboys backer, the good news is the defense should be even tougher, taking some pressure off the offense.
Dallas still has to be strongly favored to win the NFC East even with their difficult schedule in 2008, and if everyone stays healthy, expect a serious Super Bowl run.
