CFL Football Betting – CFL Power Poll Week 4
1: Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-0/1-0) (3-0 ATS) (LW: 1) The defending Grey Cup champs hold the top spot in the BetUS Sportsbook CFL power poll after former University of North Carolina QB Darian Durant led the Riders to the game-winning touchdown drive against the Ti-Cats. The 33-28 win gave the three-point underdogs the outright victory, while the final score easily surpassed the ‘total’ of 43.5. After back-to-back road games, Saskatchewan returns home to Mosaic Stadium where they haven’t lost since the middle of last season.
Next up: Home vs. Montreal (2-1)
2: Calgary Stampeders (2-1/1-0) (2-1 ATS) (LW: 5) The Stampeders make a big jump this week, up three spots to #2. Week 3 CFL betting action began when the 4.5-point underdog Stamps knocked off the host Alouettes 23-19 after trailing 11-0 at one point. For a game that featured over 900 yards of total offence, the 42 combined points fell almost two majors short of the closing ‘total’. Former Chicago Bears QB Henry Burris is 2nd in the CFL with 910 yards passing and is also 6th in the league in rushing.
Next up: Home vs. Hamilton (1-2)
3: Montreal Alouettes (2-1/0-1) (2-1 ATS) (LW: 2) The Als drop a spot in the poll after losing outright as 4.5-point home favorites against the surging Stamps. QB Anthony Calvillo had over 250 passing yards at halftime, but broke a finger on his non-throwing hand that hampered him the rest of the evening. He should be fine to play in Week 4. The task for Montreal will be difficult heading into Mosaic Stadium to take on the Roughriders, but history is on their side. The Alouettes have won 18 of 23 games overall against the Riders, including 8 of their L/11 in Saskatchewan.
Next up: Away @ Saskatchewan (3-0)
4: Edmonton Eskimos (2-1/1-0) (2-1 ATS) (LW: 6) If there was one team that made a statement in Week 3, it was the Edmonton Eskimos. The green and gold made their CFL bettors very happy, blowing out the Argonauts 47-28. The offence was by no means overpowering, but a highly criticized defence forced three INTs, constantly leaving QB Ricky Ray in great shape to put points on the board. After putting up 31 points in the second half, Edmonton must be ready for the Argos to come back with a vengeance when the two teams hook up again in Toronto in Week 4 CFL wagering action.
Next up: Away @ Toronto (1-2)
5: British Columbia Lions (1-2/1-0) (1-2 ATS) (LW: 7) Now this is the BC Lions team we remember! The Leos had their backs against the wall at 0-2 and traveling into Winnipeg, but the team came out with a vengeance opening up a 42-8 lead after three quarters. A couple meaningless scores made the final tally look a bit nicer at 42-24, but there’s not a glimmer of doubt that BC covered the 2.5-point spread with ease. QB Jarious Jackson had the best game of his career, throwing for 340 yards and five TDs, and WR Geroy Simon had 192 receiving yards. Another couple weeks of football like that, and the Lions will be on the prowl near the top of the poll once again.
Next up: Home vs. Winnipeg (0-3)
6: Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-2/0-1) (1-2 ATS) (LW: 4) Following his team’s 33-28 defeat at the hands of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, HC Charlie Taaffe had to wake up in his bed in a cold sweat. The Ti-Cats left so many chances on the board to put away the Riders, but the team most known for losing over the past few seasons found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. CFL bettors moved the line last week from a pick ‘em to -3, but the five-point defeat left many unhappy when it was all said and done. The good news for the Tabbies is that the Blue Bombers are struggling mightily right now at the bottom of the East and the bottom of the poll, but it’s unlikely that they will string together a second straight road win after dropping ten straight over the past two seasons.
Next up: Away @ Calgary (2-1)
7: Toronto Argonauts (1-2/0-1) (1-2 ATS) (LW: 3) Heading into their Week 3 match-up with the Eskimos, we warned Toronto that a loss would drop them towards the bottom of the poll. Not only did the Boatmen get knocked off, but their once proud defence had 47 points hung on them. QB controversy continues between last year’s MOP Kerry Joseph and former Kansas State standout Michael Bishop, and it seems to be tearing the Argos apart. Perhaps getting their doors blown off in the second half was good for this team. It could serve as a much-needed wake-up call. They’ll get their chance at revenge this week when they meet the Eskies in their return match-up in the Rogers Centre.
Next up: Home vs. Edmonton (2-1)
8: Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-3/0-1) (0-3 ATS) (LW: 8) For the second straight week, the Bombers find themselves at the bottom of the poll with no one to
blame for their misery but themselves. Sportsbooks made Winnipeg the second choice in the Eastern Division, and capped them at 11.5 wins on the season. In Week 3, it was the defence that let down HC Doug Berry and the Blue Bombers, giving up 42 points in a 42-24 beatdown at the hands of the BC Lions. They failed to cover the spread for the third straight game to open the 2008 CFL season, but because of the lack of defence, did push their second straight game over the ‘total.’ A return trip to BC Place will likely spell an 0-4 start.
Next up: Away @ BC (1-2)
