Default 2008 NFL Wide Receiver Betting Odds (WR)

NFL Football Futures Betting – Wagering on Receiving Yards

The NFL gambling proposition for "Most Receiving Yards" asks you to place a sports betting wager on which of the list of receivers that is provided by BetUS Sportsbook will gain the most yards receiving.

Like we did with the rushing proposition, let's put a "stock" evaluation on each man's chances:

    BetUS NFL Futures Betting Odds
    To Have Most Receiving Yards

Randy Moss +450 -- Moss obviously has a good chance here, because the Patriots have seen the departure of Donte Stallworth, and the presence of Wes Welker is best for the "dink 'n dunk" portion of the offense, rather than that which gathers huge chunks of yardage at a time. HEAVY BUY

Reggie Wayne +450 -- Wayne is justifiably one of the favorites here, because not only is the two-time Pro Bowler now the first option for Peyton Manning, he will "benefit" (or his backers will) from the inevitable downplaying of Marvin Harrison's role in this offense, as he is older and coming off an injury. HEAVY BUY

Larry Fitzgerald +500 -- Fitzgerald is one of the league's most gifted receivers, but he has to share the ball with another outstanding receiver, Anquan Boldin, and I don;t have all the confidence in the world that his quarterback, Matt Leinart, is going to be productive enough to support huge numbers. NO BUY

Terrell Owens +550 -- I really like Owens here because the Cowboys are, as it stands now, going to be without a star receiver on the other side of the field. So even though this will result in more double-team coverage for him, he will also be the focal point of this offense. HEAVY BUY

Steve Smith +650 -- Smith is also going to be the focal point of the Carolina offense, at least as it travels through the air. Of course, the Panthers, if they have their wish, will be more land-locked than other teams, so Smith will have to compete with that. But he is a big-play receiver, and if he's healthy, he can get on the kind of roll that can carry a team. LIGHT BUY

Braylon Edwards +900 -- It is likely that Cleveland is going to put the ball in the air with a great deal of frequency, and Edwards will be protected somewhat, in that the presence of Donte Stallworth, Kellen Winslow and Joe Jurevicius will make it hard to devote a lot of the secondary's coverage to him. HEAVY BUY

    Marques Colston +1000
-- You can't ever disqualify a guy like this, but it is clear that coach Sean Payton would like to spread the ball around a lot more this season. NO BUY

Torry Holt +800 -- He's always good for a lot of yards, but as the Rams look for a more balanced offense than they had in the years of Mike Martz, he'll be solid but not necessarily sensational. NO BUY

Andre Johnson +1200 -- Johnson, who has quietly developed into one of the league's best receivers in Houston, is a darkhorse contender, especially if he stays healthy the whole season (unlike last year). LIGHT BUY

Anquan Boldin +1600 -- See "Larry Fitzgerald." NO BUY

Roy Williams +1800 -- Williams is probably the favorite between himself and Calvin Johnson as far as yards gained, but a lot of people are down on him after his relatively disappointing 2007 season. NO BUY

Brandon Marshall +1600 -- Denver's go-to guy is just not explosive enough, even if he gets 10 catches again. NO BUY

Plaxico Burress +2000 -- Burress played through all kinds of little hurts to make a lot of game-changing plays. He's the #1 option again. LIGHT BUY

Dwayne Bowe +2800 -- Bowe had a great rookie season, but in this offense, and with this quarterback, he's not going to get enough of an opportunity to compete with the rest of this pack. NO BUY

Roddy White +2500 -- With a rookie quarterback for half the season? NO BUY

Santonio Holmes +2700 -- Even if he has a tremendous season, I don't see the numbers coming. NO BUY

Greg Jennings +3000 -- Brett Favre made him. Aaron Rodgers won't find him enough. NO BUY

Calvin Johnson +3500 -- Johnson will be a star receiver eventually, but the Detroit offense is going int he opposite direction of its philosophy under Mike Martz. The Lions are going to run more, and that means less yards for the team's #2 receiver. NO BUY

Bobby Engram +4000 -- He just won't have the numbers. NO BUY

Jerricho Cotchery +5000 -- Maybe a bit of a darkhorse. Worth a small play at 50/1, because he has the ability to break through for big plays. But if the Jets settle on Kellen Clements at QB, he'll have to complete passes with much more regularity to make this happen. LIGHT BUY

Chad Johnson +500 -- It certainly wouldn't be a shock to see him among the leaders, but remember that he has to share the opportunities with T.J. Houshmandzadeh. NO BUY
