Default 2008/09 NBA Rookie Of The Year Odds - Sportsbook.com

2008 NBA Rookie Of The Year Futures

NBA: Rookie of the Year

We’re months away from the NBA season, but you can already bet on the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year award at Sportsbook.com.

There are 16 players listed with odds and you can see the entire list here.

Here’s a look at the favorites.

Michael Beasley (2:1)

Miami Heat President Pat Riley didn’t seem too excited about drafting this Kansas State product, but he’s the favorite to win the award. Beasley is a bonafide inside and outside scorer, and he immediately becomes the team’s number three scoring option behind Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion.

Derrick Rose (5:2)

Rose was the No. 1 pick in the draft out of Memphis and the local product from Chicago already has the entire city buzzing. The Bulls are likely going to trade Kirk Hinrich to open a starting spot for him. Still, it’s not likely that he will have the same impact as Beasley.

Greg Oden (3:1)

Oden is eligible to win this award after sitting out all of last season with microfracture surgery on his knee. The issue with the big man from Ohio State is that no one knows how this injury will affect him next year with Portland, and he’s likely going to be used more for rebounding and defense.

O.J. Mayo (7:2)

Mayo was drafted after his freshman year at USC but he’s already turning 21 years old soon, and he’s been prepping for the NBA since the 6th grade. Mayo will start in the backcourt for the Memphis Grizzlies and with their lack of scoring options, he looks like a great value at these odds.

Eric Gordon (6:1)

Gordon is a sweet-shooting combo guard out of Indiana, but his Rookie of the Year chances were hurt when the L.A. Clippers added Baron Davis from Golden State. With Davis and Cuttino Mobley likely starting in the backcourt, Gordon will not see the minutes previously expected.

Kevin Love (8:1)

Love is another player who is all but guaranteed a starting position. Love will team up with Al Jefferson in the frontcourt for Minnesota, and they should both get plenty of touches. With an offensive game that is well developed for a soon-to-be 20 year-old, Love is another solid value to win this award.

Jerryd Bayless (10:1)

Bayless slipped to the 11th pick in the draft and then was acquired in a draft-night deal with Indiana in which the Trail Blazers gave up Brandon Rush. The problem with Bayless’ chances for this award is that he’s not a true point guard, and Portland has a ton of options in the backcourt.
