NASCAR: Edwards favored at famed short track
Carl Edwards’ winning streak ended at two, but the 28 year-old is the favorite again as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads for the concrete confines of Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 500.
Edwards is no stranger to Victory Lane at NASCAR’s famous short track, winning the Sharpie 500 last August and the Sharpie Mini 300 Nationwide race last March.

Edwards is listed at 6:1 odds and would be entering this weekend on a three race win streak if not for a blown engine last week at Atlanta. Edwards appeared to be on cruise control as he led the Kobalt Tools 500, but with 51 laps left he headed for the garage.
Edwards’ biggest competition could come from Dale Earnhardt Jr. After finishing 40th in the Auto Club 500, Earnhardt Jr. has taken his new ride to the front of the pack, finishing second in Las Vegas two weeks ago and third last weekend in Atlanta.
NASCAR’s most popular driver, Earnhardt has enjoyed success at one of the series’ toughest tracks. Earnhardt, 7:1 to win this weekend, has one victory to go with six Top 10 finishes at Bristol. His average finish is 11.7.
Sprint Cup Series leader Kyle Busch is also listed among the favorites at 7:1 odds. Coming off a win last weekend, Bush has been racing up front all season, with three Top 5 finishes already this year. His worst finish came in Las Vegas when he started on the pole but was 11th when the checkered flag waved.
Busch has four straight Top 10 finishes at Bristol and won this race last season. He has a knack for staying out of trouble in what is usually a caution-filled race and if he can do that again this Sunday, he’ll be in contention for the win.
The other favorites are Matt Kenseth, winner of two of the last five Bristol races, and Jeff Gordon, who has five career wins at the famed short track. Both drivers are listed at 8:1 odds.
Kurt Busch looks like a steal at 10:1 odds. Busch has five victories and nine Top 10 finishes here. Other drivers with respectable odds include Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin at 12:1 odds. Stewart has a victory and five Top 5 finishes at Bristol while Hamlin enters Sunday with just one Top 10 finish and an average finish of 19.2 at this track.
At 75:1 odds, Jamie McMurray could be a good long shot bet. McMurray has had a horrible start to the season but has four Top 10 finishes at Bristol and one Top 5.
