NASCAR betting fans will get another taste of Saturday night racing this week as the Sprint Cup Series hits Chicagoland Speedway for the LifeLock.com 400.
Tony Stewart claimed the checkered flag at Chicagoland last year, which was his first win of the season. Stewart can repeat that feat again this year, as he once again heads to Chicagoland winless. Stewart fell ill part way through last week’s race at Daytona and was forced to give way to backup driver J.J. Yeley. If Stewart can get back to victory lane (days after announcing he’ll split with Joe Gibbs Racing after this season) he’ll do it as a +800 underdog on the odds list.
But maybe NASCAR wagering fans should just start wagering on Kyle Busch every week. Busch came through again at Daytona last week, edging Carl Edwards after a late caution to pick up his sixth Series win of the season. Busch now holds a big 182-point lead on the second-place driver - Dale Earnhardt Jr. - in the standings. Of course Busch is favored to win again this weekend at +550 on the NASCAR odds. In three career starts at Chicagoland Busch’s best finish was a third-place result in 2006.
Edwards is at +600 on the odds list to win this week, while Jimmie Johnson checks in behind him at +700. Edwards finished third at Chicagoland last season, his best career result on the track, while Johnson had posted four straight Top 6 finishes at Chicagoland before crashing and finishing in 37th place last year.
If you’re looking for an underdog to win this weekend you might want to take a look at Jeff Gordon. The oddsmakers have him back at +1400 to win this weekend, but he’s won at Chicagoland before (in 2006). Gordon held the lead for 46 laps at Daytona last week, but made a big blunder near the end which caused him to crash and finish 30th.
Have your eye on a futures wager instead? Busch is currently pegged as the +200 favorite to win the Sprint Cup championship this season, with Earnhardt Jr. at +450, and Edwards at +600. Johnson (+700), Gordon (+1000), and Stewart (+1000) follow the leaders on that list, with Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, and Kasey Kahne all pegged at +1200.
