Edwin Jackson pitched eight shutout innings and Mike DiFelice drove in three runs, as the Tampa Bay Rays salvaged the finale of a three-game series against Seattle with a 7-0 victory at Tropicana Field.
B.J. Upton drove in two runs and Akinori Iwamura went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored for Tampa Bay, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Carl Crawford also had two hits with a run scored and Jonny Gomes added two hits with two runs scored in the victory. Eric Hinske homered for the Rays.
Jackson (2-0) limited Seattle to just a pair of singles with four walks and six strikeouts to earn his second win in as many starts. He threw six innings of one-run, five-hit ball to beat the Yankees on Saturday.
"The main thing is the team effort," noted Jackson. "We had a lot of great plays behind me. It was a lot of pressure after losing four in a row."
Adrian Beltre had two of Seattle's three hits. The Mariners won the first two games of this series by scores of 6-5 and 7-1 after being swept in a four-game series at Baltimore.
"It was not a good road trip, although we did win a series," said Mariners manager John McLaren.
