Default MLB Betting – Worst $$$ teams in Baseball

The first half of the MLB season is now behind us. With that, MLB Handicappers and sports betting enthusiasts have a large sample of data to help find the teams to play on and against throughout the last couple months of the season. Here’s a short list of some of the worst the league has to offer.

baseball

1) San Diego Padres (37-58) (-$2421.00) It’s been shocking to see what the Padres have turned into after coming up short in the play in game against the Colorado Rockies at the end of last season. This club just can’t seem to do anything right. Petco Park used to be a huge advantage for them, but that hasn’t been the case in ’08. They currently stand seven-games under .500 at 23-30 overall and have cost MLB betting fans a lofty $1252 to date, but that’s not the worst of it. They’ve only managed to win 14-games on the road this year to go along with 28 defeats costing their betting backers close to $1200 more dollars. All in all through 95-games, the Padres have earned the tag as “the worst bet in all of baseball” and it doesn’t look to get any better in the second half once management unloads some high priced contracts to make room for the younger talent. The only good news coming out of Padres camp is that they’re just 10-games back in the woeful NL West, and could find themselves right back in the race if they go on a prolonged winning streak for the first time all season.

2) Cleveland Indians (41-53) (-$2412.00) It’s been all downhill for the Indians franchise ever since they got the best of the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs last season. Their MLB odds to win the AL Central was second worst in line to only the Detroit Tigers at the start of the season, but this club just couldn’t hold up to the pre-season predictions and currently finds itself in last place of the AL Central 13-games in back of the Chicago White Sox. The starting pitching has been decent and they play the best defense in the league evidenced by only committing 41 errors (#1 rank), but the hitting and bullpen have really let this team down. The Tribe’s currently the worst bet in the American League heading into the break costing the MLB wagering public close to $2500 on the season. They’ve already traded C.C. to the Milwaukee Brewers for a bunch of prospects, but GM Mark Shapiro isn’t done yet. Look for him to finalize a couple more deals before the trade deadline as the franchise looks to next season with this one certainly being a bust.

3) Seattle Mariners (37-58) (-$2097.00) The Mariners troubles started throughout the last two months of their 2007 campaign, and carried over to this season costing former manager John McLaren his job. Seattle brass didn’t do much to improve the ball club throughout the off-season; save for making a trade with Baltimore to bring in Erik Bedard, but even that move’s blown up in their face. It hasn’t been much better with Jim Riggleman at the helm as the Mariners have been equally bad both home and away. They’ve proven to be the worst home bet in all of baseball evidenced by the $1343 they’ve cost their betting backers, and they’re in the red on the road as well dropping 31 of its 49 road games (-$754). The Mariners offense has been atrocious since the end of last season (3.9 RPG (#29), .254 AVG (#22), 70 HR (#24)), and the pitching staff has been below average the whole way through. Now an even 20-games off the pace in the AL West, the Mariners season is all but over so expect more of the dead weight (Richie Sexson) to get cut as the trade deadline approaches.
