As great as this past weekend was for “Cubs Nation”, it was just as bad for the White Sox who got taken out behind the woodshed to absorb yet another beating from its neighbors to the north. Ozzie Guillen talked a good game before the series began to brainwash MLB bettors into backing his club throughout the three-game set, but his players couldn’t walk the walk when it mattered most. They were outscored 22-11 overall in the three-game online betting extravaganza that saw the betting public continue to take a bath betting them as a visitor. At 17-23 on the road, the White Sox have cost its backers $362.00 on the year.
They’ll look to rebound at Chavez Ravine for three before getting an opportunity to avenge last weekend’s massacre in the comfy confines of US Cellular field where they’ve been one of baseballs best to date. Manager Joe Torres club looks to be falling apart at the seams. The names littered throughout the DL look to be enough to field a solid All Star team, and it doesn’t look as if any of them are returning anytime soon. The most recent entrees to the walking wounded list are starting pitchers Brad Penny and off-season acquisition Hiroki Kuroda, which makes the Dodgers injury riddled offenses job that much tougher. The Dodgers shockingly swept a three-game set at Cincinnati and headed into their weekend online betting Interleague series with the Cleveland Indians on a rare high. That said they managed to avoid the sweep by taking the final game of the series by a 4-3 final count after erupting for its only four runs in the 1st inning. They’ll look to carry the momentum the pitching staff gave them by allowing the four-run 1st inning lead to hold up the entire game, and in the process, improve upon their unimpressive 19-17 home mark.
Lefty Mark Buehrle has been a dominant force on the White Sox rotation in the month of June. He’s 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in his L/3 starts allowing opponents just 18 hits and four runs with a K/BB ratio of 13/4 in 24 solid innings of work. He took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning and lasted eight innings for the third straight time his last time out against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He gave up only four hits and two runs, and retired the first 12 batters he faced to earn his fourth consecutive quality start. In his career against the Dodgers, Buehrle is 1-1 with a 1.20 lifetime ERA.
Opposing him will be the Dodgers Derek Lowe who was fabulous in his last start at Cincinnati where he held the Reds to three hits and one earned run in 5 1/3rd innings of work before tiring. Overall, Lowe is 5-6 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 17 total starts on the year. LA has won in blowout fashion in each of his last two starts at Chavez Ravine against the Chicago Cubs, 7-3, and Colorado Rockies, 8-2. He’s 4-1 at home this year and his ERA creeps down to an even better 3.11. He’s yet to face the White Sox as a member of the Dodgers, but Boston won four of his five starts against the Palehose from 2002-04.
