| Many under-the-radar pitchers got off to great starts this season, and paid off nicely for those doing any MLB betting on them. So how well have those sports betting favorite hurlers been faring since their hot starts? Here’s an update on some of them as we hit the last week of June. Edinson Volquez – Cincinnati Reds Volquez has started 16 games so far this season, and the Reds have won 12 of them. And those four losses couldn’t really be blamed on the righthander, as he gave up just three earned runs over those four outings (and one of them came in relief). Overall Volquez is 10-2 with a stunning 1.71 ERA, and he’s shown no sign of any sort of decline. Cliff Lee – Cleveland Indians Lee is no longer blanking opponents like he did on a regular basis over the first two months of the season, but he’s still pitching the Indians to victories. Cleveland was 6-0 over Lee’s first six outings, and they’ve gone 5-1 the last half-dozen times he’s taken to the mound. The lefthander heads into this week at 10-1 on the season with a 2.45 ERA. Ervin Santana – Los Angeles Angels Santana is 9-3 with a 3.17 ERA on the season, but those numbers are boosted by his strong start to the season (6-1 over his first seven starts). Since May 11 the righthander has only managed to go 3-3 with two no-decisions, and the Angels were 3-5 in those contests. Don’t write Santana off, though, as he tossed seven two-hit innings last week. Joe Saunders – Los Angeles Angels The Angels picked up the victory in each of Saunders’ first seven starts this season, and they went 5-3 in his eight subsequent outings. The lefthander is now 11-3 (he’s earned a decision in every start but one), and his ERA is just over three at 3.03. Saunders has won each of his past two outings as well, allowing two earned runs over 14 1-3 innings. Mark Hendrickson – Florida Marlins Hendrickson started the season 5-1 for the Marlins, and his team came out the winner in six of his first eight outings. The lefthander, though, is only 2-4 since May 13, and Florida has been tagged with the loss in five of his past eight starts. With no wins since May 25 and an ERA now at 5.73, it’s likely best to avoid Hendrickson when placing bets. Daniel Cabrera – Baltimore Orioles The enigmatic Cabrera looked like he’d finally turned it around over the first two months of the season. The righthander went 5-1 over his first nine starts, and Baltimore was 8-1 over that span. However, Cabrera has fallen on hard times since May 25, with two losses to go with four no-decisions, and the Orioles are only 1-5 in his last six outings. Andy Sonnanstine – Tampa Bay Rays Sonnanstine was 6-1 through his first nine starts as the Rays started to show some life in the AL East, and Tampa Bay was 7-2 in those games. And since then? Well, the righthander’s ERA is nothing special (4.92), but the Rays are still 4-2 over his last six starts as he’s run his record up to 8-3. Sonnanstine hasn’t lost since his start on May 27. Livan Hernandez – Minnesota Twins The Twins picked up Hernandez to give them some stability in their rotation, and the team went 8-1 over his first nine starts. Since then, though, the returns haven’t been as good, as Minnesota is just 3-4 over the righthander’s last seven outings. And an even bigger issue: Hernandez has surrendered five or more runs in five of his last six starts. Go to the BetUS sportsbook today and take a swing at Major League Baseball online betting.
