Interleague play MLB betting matchups aren’t always that interesting, but those doing any sports betting early this week will get a good one as the top two teams in the east meet – the first-place Boston Red Sox will go south to Philadelphia to take on the first-place Phillies.
The Red Sox, though, won’t have either of their top two pitchers on the mound for this online gambling series. Staff ace Josh Beckett just pitched on Sunday afternoon – blanking the Cincinnati Reds on six hits over seven innings in his seventh victory of the season. And Daisuke Matsuzaka is still on the disabled list with a strained shoulder; he could return to the mound at some point during the week, but it won’t be in time to take on the Phillies.
Boston’s projected starters for the series, then, are Bartolo Colon, Jon Lester, and Justin Masterson. Righthander Colon will open the set for Boston on Monday night, and he’s gone 4-1 over five starts since being promoted to the major leagues late last month. Colon was signed over the winter as an insurance policy for the team’s rotation.
