Big Brown expected to win Preakness Stakes
Kentucky Derby champion Big Brown is a big favorite to win the 133rd running of the Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of U.S. thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown series.
betED.com has Big Brown at -350 moneyline odds to win the Preakness on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.
betED.com also has Big Brown at -105 to win the Triple Crown, which would include wins at the Preakness this weekend and the 140th Belmont Stakes on June 7. Big Brown is -200 to win the Belmont.
Big Brown won the 134th Kentucky Derby on May 3, becoming the first horse to win the Run for the Roses after just three career starts since the filly Regret in 1915. He also became the first since the gelding Clyde Van Dusen in 1929 to win from the outside No. 20 post position.
No horse has won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
Behindatthebar, trained by Todd Pletcher, is the next favorite, well back of Big Brown at +800. The horse won the Grade II Coolmore Lexington race on April 19.
Hey Byrn is +1500 and Macho Again is +1800.
One longshot that's attracting a lot of attention is Kentucky Bear (+2300), which will be well-rested after skipping the Derby because the son of Mr. Greeley did not earn enough graded-stakes money to secure a spot in America's top race.
