John G. Locke Earns 1,000th Win

This unforgettable accomplishment for Houston native, trainer John G. Locke, came in the fourth race on the card at Oaklawn Park, for a $10,000 maiden claiming race at 5 1/2 furlongs.

The 1,000th win came aboard Matty B with jockey Luis Quinonez atop the 3-year-old gelding to the win by 1 3/4 lengths.

Locke was born in Covert, Kan., and owned and practiced veterinary medicine from 1972- 1989, until he sold his business and became a fulltime race horse trainer.

This is by no means the last win for Locke, who expects more to come.
