August 7th Horse Pick of the Day - Saratoga Race 8

Saratoga continues their summer meet on Thursday with the $150,000 New York Stallions Stakes as the East Coast afternoon headliner. I Lost My Choo is the 1 to 2 morning line favorite. Because of the expected online horse racing odds, and the fact that I Lost My Choo should have no problem winning, I can’t even look at that race.



For online racebook betting fans, Saratoga has proven to be a much more consistent track since racing started a couple of weeks ago. Del Mar, Saratoga’s equivalent on the West Coast, has been a boon for long shot players.

But consistency is the way to pad any online horse betting bankroll. That means finding races where you have a solid opinion on horses that have legitimate chances of winning.

Fortune Faded - - 5/1 morning line

There isn’t a whole lot of speed in this race. In fact, there’s hardly any which means this son of Catienus could find himself on an easy lead. He was in very good form before losing by 25 lengths in his last race. That should push the price higher in this affair. Edgar Prado who rode him to a third place finish in a $75,000 NY Stallion Stakes two races ago returns. That could definitely help Fortune Faded as Prado is an absolute master with horses on the front end. My gut tells me to make an online wager on this guy to go wire to wire.

Trust Nobody - - 5/2 morning line

This 4-year old gelding is coming off of a month layoff for first time trainer Bruce Levine. Levine is excellent first time winning 31% of his races. Levine is also excellent with his off the bench starters winning those races at a 28% clip. The only real issue is that this guy has been running in some seriously cheap races. Yes, this is a state bred allowance but $8,000 open claimers at Golden Gate are worse.

Minot Light - - 6/1 morning line

The Michael Gorham trainee will need to reverse his awful form, but he does get Ramon Dominguez to take the call and he is on the rail. That means this gelding could save all of the ground before mounting an up the rail rally at the top of the stretch. Rail rallies at Saratoga are quite common and Dominguez will get Minot Light there for an attempt at least.

Wagering Strategy

After Fortune Faded, this race appears to be wide open. I’m going to skip the online exotic wagers altogether and just make an online bet on Fortune Faded to win and place.
