Default Horse Race Betting - Padding Your Bankroll

National horse racing handicapper Michael Dempsey will attempt to pad his bankroll and yours with his daily column. He will feature at least one Pick 3 or Pick 4 play from a major track along with coverage of major stakes races, longshots, and he will keep you up to date on what is happening on the circuits he covers.

By this time, the sparklers have fizzled out and the coal on the grill has petered out. That’s okay, there is plenty of action to be found around the country on Saturday.

There are nine graded stakes on tap Saturday, including five Grade 1 races.

A good stop to make on Saturday is on the Jersey Shore, where the highlight of the day is the $750,000 United Nations Stakes (G1), which features a good field of nine older horses that will go 1 3/8 miles on the turf.

Trainer Bobby Frankel sends out a pair of runners. The one to beat may be Champs Elysees, who is coming off a sub par effort in his last start, a sixth place finish in the Charlie Whittingham (G1) at Hollywood Park.

The five year old earned triple digit Beyers in three of his four previous starts and figures to bounce back off his last start.

Frankel will also saddle Sudan, an Irish bred who won the Golden Gate Fields Turf (G3) in his last start.

The United Nations goes off as the final race on the card, which also features the $75,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes and the $300,000 Salvatore Mile (G3).

Hollywood Park has a strong eleven race card including five stakes races. There are three Grade 1 races on the card.

The $300,000 Vanity Handicap (G1) drew a field of seven fillies and mares who will go nine furlongs. The favorite will likely be the brilliant filly Zenyatta, who is unbeaten in five career starts.

The $750,000 American Oaks Invitational (G1) drew a field of twelve three year old fillies. The race drew four fillies from overseas including Caribbean Sunset, who most recently was third in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot.

Pure Clam, who ships in from Kentucky for trainer Robert Holthius, is coming off a win in the Regret Stakes (G3) and looks the best of the U.S. based runners.

The $300,000 Triple Bend Handicap (G1) drew a field of seven older sprinters who will go seven furlongs on the Cushion Track. Churchill invader Elite Squadron is coming off a decent third in his last start and won the Churchill Downs ‘Cap (G2) two back.

Local runners High Standards and Street Boss figure to get their share of attention at the windows, both coming of stakes wins over the surface.

Also on the huge Hollywood Park card is the $750,000 Cash Call Mile (G2), and the $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship (G3).

At Belmont Park, the feature is the $250,000 Prioress Stakes (G1), which drew a field of seven three year old fillies.

It could be an “All Indian” exacta. Indian Way, trained by Tony Dutrow, was a very impressive maiden winner in her second career start at Hollywood Park, earning a triple digit Beyer.

Indian Blessing will be saddled by Bob Baffert. The filly comes in having won five of her seven career start. In her most recent start, she was second in the Acorn Stakes (G2) behind Zaftig.

It is closing weekend at Churchill Downs. Saturday’s feature is the $150,000 Bashford Manor Stakes (G2) for two year olds.

Trainer Steve Asmussen will send out a pair in Segal, who was third in the Victoria Stakes at Woodbine in his last start, and Lyin’ Heart, who won a restricted stake at Lone Star in his last outing.

Sunday’s closing day feature at Churchill Downs is the $150,000 Locust Grove Handicap. A field of ten fillies and mares will go one mile on the turf course.

As you can see, there is non stop action all day. No reason whatsoever to have a cookout or visit with family and friends. All the reason to fire up your wagering account and try to pad your bankroll.
