Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals has earned the series’ highest cable television rating since 2002.

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Versus on Thursday night drew a 2.8 rating and averaged 3.45 million viewers.

Does this mean the NHL is headed back to ESPN?

The weirdest thing is that the Cup ratings in Canada are actually down. What gives?

Maybe that will make some of the bigger networks take a look at televising the playoffs in the future. At the very least ESPN should get back involved.

Since I'm in Canada I don't really care if ESPN has the game on, but I guess for the NHL to really flourish it does need to be on ESPN....not sure if 3.45 million people watching a game is great or not, but if ESPN has it on any idea what type of numbers they'd get on there for a game?
