I don't know about you guys, but unless you have access to some sort of time machine winning an NCAA bracket contest is diificult.
March Madness just brings to many unforseen upsets and too many fluke performances that can kill your bracket in an instant.
You need a lot of luck on your side, and apparently Bodog Sportsbook player Simon W. had it. He entered into the Bodog Sportsbook's Bracket Buster constest and won $10,000 for having the best bracket overall.
"I got lucky," hesaid in an interview with Bodog Beat. "If Memphis doesn't miss all those free throws late in the fourth quarter and Kansas doesn't hit that desperation three, you'd be interviewing someone else."
Maybe, but you can only get lucky so many times. Simon W. did it for an entire tournament. He even took four No. 1s, something that's never happened in NCAA history, and chose the Cinderella squad of the tourney.
"I took No. 10 seed Davidson to get to the Elite Eight," Wong explained. "A No. 10 seed would indicate that they were probably about the 40th-43rd best team in the country, but many power rankings had Davidson much higher than that.
"Basically, I looked at some power rankings to try to identify some over or underrated teams."
In the end, however, it was guard Mario Chalmers that won him the $10,000. His game-tying shot in regulation helped his pick, the Kansas Jayhawks, win the National Championship.
"I jumped and let out a yelp when Kansas hit the game-tying 3. Before that point, I kinda consoled myself with the fact that second or third place would probably pay pretty well too. No one expected Memphis to miss so many free throws."
No one expects a lot of things from the NCAA tournament. That's why there's only one winner. Lucky or not Simon W. deserves some props… and the grand prize.
