MLB Fantasy Baseball: Who's Hot & Who's Not
One week of action is in the books and certain players are already making headway in the fantasy gameWhile it's still too early to champion an MVP (or LVP), the opening week of the Major League Baseball season did forecast a few things:
1. Spending big bucks doesn't always equal better results. Just ask the Detroit Tigers.
2. The Kansas City Royals might not score a lot of runs, but they won't give up many either.
3. Jose Canseco needs to stay off television.
Of course, pennants aren't won in April, and neither are roto leagues. But keep an eye on the following to see if their opening week booms (or busts) are blips on the radar or actual trends for the future.
HOT: Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies
With all apologies to Orlando Hudson and Freddy Sanchez, there is no debate on who the National League's best second baseman is (hint: it's the guy in the boldface type).
While his Phillies are off to a slow start, Utley has been nothing short of brilliant through six games. He leads the NL in home runs (three), slugging percentage (.952) and has registered a hit in all but one game.
