Default Kevin Durant Wins NBA ROY; Atlanta Coach Says Al Horford Deserves Half

Mike Woodson is ready to break out the hacksaw and get to dividin' him some trophy.

Seems as though the Atlanta Hawks head coach wasn't any too impressed that Seattle Supersonics star rookie Kevin Durant was the runaway winner of the 2007-08 NBA Rookie of the Year award, garnering 90 of a possible 125 first-place votes.

See, Woodson thinks that's a joke. He believes his prized rookie - Hawks PF Al Horford - should've gotten at least half.

"It's a travesty and it's not right," Woodson said Wednesday night before Atlanta's Game 5 loss to Boston, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He should have shared it, if not gotten it outright. And I don't want to hear about us not being on TV or anything like that. It doesn't matter. It's what this kid has done for this team.

"We haven't had a power forward/center come in our league and do what he's done [average a double-double] in I don't know how many years. I mean, come on, man."

Durant averaged 20.3 points per game to Horford's 10.1, although Big Al did haul down 9.7 rebounds per game to lead the rookie class. The biggest difference might be that Horford was a key figure to leading Atlanta to its first playoff appearance in nine years while Durant struggled to a 20-win season in Seattle. Of course, the Hawks made the playoffs in the East, where anybody with a pair of sneakers and a pulse has a shot at qualifying.
