The Ultimate Fighting Championships has officially released jiu-jitsu black belt Travis Lutter (9-5) from his UFC contract. The news comes after Lutter suffered a loss to Rich Frankin (23-3) at UFC 83: Serra vs. St. Pierre 2, April 19 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Although he was able to take Franklin down in the first round, and nearly finish the former champion with an armlock, Lutter did poorly in the second round, and suffered a TKO loss after he was unable to get Franklin to the mat again. Previous to his fight with Franklin, Lutter suffered a loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva (22-4) in February of 2007. Before that match, Lutter failed to make the 185-pound weight limit, turning the would-be title match into a 3-round non-title fight. During the fight, Lutter took Silva down, but found himself caught in a triangle choke in the second round and was forced to tap out. Lutter won a shot at the title by beating Patrick Cote (12-4) in November of 2006, in the finals of the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Bet on UFC odds in the Bodog Sportsbook. - Bodog Beat
