Default Luck

Do you believe in luck? For example, can one person be extremely lucky (or extremely unlucky), or is everything brought about by coincidence or skill?

I don't really understand the difference between what is considered luck and what is considered coincidence. I always kind of thought that both of them were one and the same.

I think the main difference between luck and coincidence is that many believe that luck has some sort of special force behind it. I really don't believe in luck, I think everything is coincidence, but I do think that somebody can be lucky, meaning that they were fortunate enough that many good coincidences happened to them.

I think it's just an expression and I put no faith in it, nor do I discard it. Perhaps it is simply an emotional comfort. If I win luck was on my side, makes me feel better to be "looked out" for, and if I lose it is not my fault.

That's a good way of putting it Mike. I think it is an emotional comfort, it puts blame onto a separate entity from yourself if things are not going so well, but if you win, you have all the comfort of knowing that there's a reason for it.

I'm starting to see the difference now, I guess. I still see luck and coincidence as being almost the same thing though, I guess it just depends on what word you want to use, for the most part at least.

I don't really beleive in luck although I do beleive in karma. Theres just something in the philosophy that if you do good then good will be done unto you that comforts me

I think that theres a fine line between luck and coincidence, I believe in both so its hard for me to discern which is which. I just like to take risks and just live life
